Tonight's Golden Globes represent the first legitimate (sorry People's Choice) red carpet of the awards season. The Globes serve as a precursor to the Oscars and a time for actors to make wardrobe statements. Some of my observations...
Metallics MomentsSilver and bronze frocks were donned by the hottest actresses. My favorite metallic looks:
Diane Kruger, in Emilia Wickstead, can do no wrong in my book. Her column gown with a flared hem and cap sleeves was impeccably fit and beautiful.
Julianne Moore is a veteran fashionista. Givenchy strapless ombre column with feathers. Be still my heart.
In my humble opinion, the worst metallic moment:
Dakota Johnson, I hope this isn't a precursor for Fifty Shades of Grey. Her dress looked like a sequined elastic tube top (Juicy Couture?) with a bedazzled sequined skirt. I can see the prom knock-offs coming.
Boobies, Boobies, Boobies, Rockin' Everywhere - Breasts reigned supreme - everywhere you turned the girls were out and proud. I would be too nervous to embark on this trend in fear of a wardrobe malfunction.I'm talking to you:
Sienna Miller (my favorite dress btw, a little flashy, really pretty and a bit quirky, just like Ms. Miller);
Kate Hudson in Versace; and
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad.
You all looked STUNNING but please be careful.No Risk, No RewardRisk takers are my favorites. Some will be on the best-dressed list and some the worst. However it plays out, I applaud women who take risks and wear clothes reflective of their personalities and not just what their stylist says.
Claire Danes in Valentino. One of the only dresses with interesting colors (jewel tones) and texture (feathers). There was a lot going on but I think it worked.
Kiera Knightly in Chanel - In her defense, she's pregnant so may not be thinking straight, and when Chanel wants to dress you the answer is YES. On the other hand, the Queen Elizabeth I collar and butterfly motif, complete with clutch, should be put away forever.
Emma Stone I love a woman in pants for a formal event and this Lanvin metallic jumpsuit with a jeweled bodice and dramatic bow train does the trick. She looks chic and comfortable - win, win.
Nudies Lips that is. I am channeling my mother when I declare, a little color on the lips would go a long way. I agree with the philosophy of highlighting either eye or lip, but many of the leading ladies looked drab and washed out. I would have added a bit more color to both Rosamund Pike andKatherine Heigl's pouts. So...what does all of these trends mean for us? In a nutshell, metallics continue to be on-trend and can be worn in everyday life as neutrals; be careful with your boobs (always a good one); express your individuality even when it goes against the grain and for goodness sake, wear some (colored) lipstick. Always in Style -
